Last week of T3

The good news is that at last Adrian has confirmed his flights and will be visiting in November. He will most likely be out last visitor is Sg. We are certainly looking forward to him coming.
This week we also heard from Sandy and she announced that the current Farm Manager at Alawa Primary has officially resigned as of the end of the year and I have been offered the role. Still some finer details to work out regarding which days and for how many hours but we can talk about that when she is here later this month. We are down to only a few visitors now so as soon as we return from Japan we will advertise the sofa bed and other furniture we want to off-load. Not a lot really. Mervyn an Yvonne took and extra suitcase of ours with them and Sandy and Adrian will do the same.
On Friday we took the light rail to Nibong (on the Punggol west loop) and walked to Punggol Barat. This is one of two reclaimed islands currently used for the purpose of storing and manufacturing supplies for the building industry. A public road cuts through both islands and is popular with cyclists because of light traffic, but not pedestrians - we were the only ones. Along the way we passed the Marina Country Club (below left), the colorful buildings of the PPT Lodge which can house 14,000 foreign workers employed by the building industry in Singapore. It is the largest purpose-built lodging for them here (top right) and massive banks of sand or granite (bottom right). There is little shade and no public facilities here; no toilets, no shelters, no bus stops and no stores along the way

It was Eric's first venture out here to look for the seed eaters. Today we found the crimson-rumped waxbills (bottom right) , orange-cheeked Waxbills, black-headed Munia (top right), scaly-breasted munia, paddyfield pipit and zitting cisticola (below left).  We also found the long-tailed shrike, greater coucal and a majestic soaring white bellied sea eagle on the wing among other unidentified individuals.

We managed to get the bulk of our tax return details sent off for the 2016 return this week and changed money into Japanese Yen. The weekend flew by with Teachers Day on Friday which had many of our students over-excited and lots of interesting gifts coming our way.
Must away to get the last of the packing done, taxi is booked for 4:30am!
